THE FUTURE (WHERE YOU COME IN)
Project Scope:
We’re excited to commence Phase 3, bringing our vision closer to reality. With a total budget of $3.2 million, we’ll be focusing on the first six buildings of the twelve, with the initial three structures funded and started in 2025 at a cost of $1,257,000.
These pioneering buildings will set the tone for the school – the Senior Classroom Block will offer a safe space for trauma-informed education and leadership development. At the same time, the Pavilion and Dining Hall will become a vibrant heart of the project, fostering connection, sharing, and community building. The school can open upon completing these first six buildings, marking a significant milestone.
Just One Africa is currently committed to funding the first six buildings, which will make it possible for the Senior High classes to open and begin serving students. As future funding becomes available, we will thoughtfully revisit priorities and may continue building out the full campus, with a long-term vision of twelve buildings in total.
Phase 4 will then focus on the remaining six buildings, ensuring the full realization of this legacy project. Just One Africa has not committed to this phase.
Phase 3 will involve:
- High school classroom block – $659,000 (Funded!)
- Outdoor pavilion – $100,000 (Funded!)
- Dining hall and auditorium – $498,000 (Funded!)
- Staff Housing – $246,000 (Funded)
- Dormitories – Girls – $450,000 (Funded), Boys – $450,000 (Currently fundraising)
- Campus site work – $777,000
These first six buildings will allow Lenkai High School to open and provide trauma-informed education to students.
We started construction in April 2025 with the first three buildings, with a target completion date in mid-2026. We will then begin construction on the Staff Housing and the two Dormitories as funding allows.

Our next fundraising priority is the Sr. High Boys Dormitory, with a projected cost of $450,000.
This dormitory will house 96 students. It will provide students with safe, comfortable, and conducive living environments, fostering a sense of community and supporting academic excellence. If we break it down per student, it is $4,688 each.

The First 5 Buildings are FULLY FUNDED!
You have successfully raised funds to construct the first five buildings – the Pavilion, Senior High Classroom Block, Dining Hall/Auditorium and Kitchen Building, Staff Housing Building and the Sr. Girls Dormitory.
We officially broke ground on the first three buildings in April 2025. These buildings are currently under construction! We will start construction on the next buildings when the first ones are complete.

Why Trauma-Informed?
A trauma-informed high school is an educational institution that recognizes the impact of trauma on students’ lives and adapts its environment, policies, and practices to support their healing and success.
This approach fosters a safe, supportive, and predictable environment, using trauma-sensitive practices, providing access to counseling and mental health services, and encouraging resilience-building skills.
This new high school will continue the heartbeat of the existing elementary school, providing a safe, trauma-informed environment to learn from the inside out. With only two main high schools in the area, it will bridge the gap by helping 800+ students complete their secondary education while finding support to develop their character and skill sets for a future that moves forward!

Establishing a trauma-informed high school in a Maasai community is crucial for empowering both boys and girls, whose education is often disrupted by harmful cultural practices such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and child labor.

But right now, many girls still face forced early marriage and female genital mutilation, shattering their hopes. At Just One Africa, we’re building a solution: a trauma-informed high school.
THE PROBLEM
In 2010, our partners John and Dorcus Parit moved out of Nairobi, the capital city, back to their small hometown in southern Kenya. Their hearts broke with the reality they encountered of young girls, who should have been in school, but were instead being forced to undergo harmful traditions, ending up as child brides with lives of pain and abuse.
Challenges in accessing quality education
- No trauma-informed high schools for students to attend
- Transportation costs to and from school are too high for families
- Young ladies are at risk for being taken advantage by male teachers
- Local high schools are currently at or over capacity
- Students leaving high school are not prepared for the changing world around them
- Young ladies are more vulnerable to harm when traveling long distances to
and from school
THE SOLUTION
A vision for a school was birthed, and an elementary school opened in 2013, providing children in the community access to quality education. John and Dorcus continued their work, providing rescue to children in crisis and a safe place to receive care, counseling, and the love of a family. The school has grown over the last ten years, and it is rapidly outgrowing its space as the demand exceeds its ability to provide education for all those in need.
