Agriculture
Building food security is essential for reducing monthly expenses and fostering independence. It has been truly inspiring to witness the remarkable transformations that occur when our partners gain access to water, cultivate strong leadership, and implement strategic plans to enhance their ability to meet their food needs.
They have evolved from reliant consumers to empowered providers and suppliers in local markets. Innovative practices like drip irrigation have drastically lowered water consumption, minimized weed growth, and boosted crop yields. The produce harvested not only nourishes children at the rescue center but also supports the school lunch program and serves as feed for animals.
Month after month, they are steadily expanding their resources and capabilities building an internal network of solutions.
Livestock
Harnessing their extensive knowledge to uplift themselves and others exemplifies how our partners consistently leverage their unique gifts to broaden their impact. In Kenya, animal care is a fundamental practice, and our partners effectively implement livestock programs to reduce expenses on milk and eggs by producing these essentials in-house.
The sale of surplus products not only boosts their income but also supports vital community initiatives. Additionally, repurposing organic manure from the animals enriches the soil in their gardens, ensuring that every resource is utilized to its fullest potential. Furthermore, caring for animals offers therapeutic benefits for children from challenging backgrounds, teaching them the profound lessons of giving and receiving love and care.
Water Borehole and Kiosk
The borehole that Just One Africa drilled in 2015 for one of our partners is a beacon of clean water in the region, and its popularity continues to soar. This vital water source not only quenches thirst but also generates job opportunities for local water vendors who distribute it to far-off communities.
Numerous families and businesses now enjoy piped water from the borehole, equipped with personal water meters that guarantee a reliable income stream. This income not only supports the ongoing operation and maintenance of the borehole but also provides essential assistance for the school’s critical needs.
The adjacent water bottling plant uses water from the borehole, purified and bottled for sale to local businesses. It is one of the only distributors in the area that provides this in-demand service.

Sanitation
Access to clean water is not just a luxury; it is a fundamental necessity for life. However, the importance of sanitation facilities cannot be overlooked. We are actively addressing the clean water crisis by establishing vital access points, providing comprehensive hygiene training to both students and staff, and collaborating with our partners to support essential sanitation projects.
Alarmingly, more Kenyans have access to safe drinking water than to basic sanitation services. Currently, only 25% of households are equipped with hand-washing facilities that include soap and water. Ensuring that children have consistent access to safe drinking water, basic sanitation, and effective hygiene practices is crucial for their health and survival.
Trauma-Informed Training
As we continue our journey toward sustainability with our partners, we reaffirm our steadfast commitment to holistic growth in every dimension of our work. While we value the importance of project updates, our core focus—our “WHY”—is centered on people.
We are passionate about nurturing well-being from within, understanding that supporting wholeness is far more impactful than just addressing brokenness. To bring this vision to life, we collaborate with a trusted trauma training partner who engages deeply with our partners, their staff, and the children they serve. This partnership provides essential trauma-informed training, healing groups, and personalized counseling services.
We have seen the profound difference this support makes in the lives of those we serve. Trauma-informed training is designed to recognize the signs of trauma and understand its effects on individuals, communities, and systems. Its purpose is to create a framework for fostering safe and nurturing environments that empower individuals to deliver care in a trauma-informed manner.

This inspiring quote comes from our partner, John Parit, at Hope Beyond Center. During a difficult season, their farm faced severe challenges, losing crops due to the ongoing nationwide drought. They struggled to provide water for their livestock, let alone enough for their home and the many children living there. It was a critical moment for them, and the prospect of having a reliable water source was incredibly hopeful.
In early 2023, Just One Africa stepped in to provide a deep-water borehole, complete with a solar-powered pump and a sturdy steel storage tank elevated on a high tower. John kept his promise, and now the farm is flourishing!
